James Richard Roberts
After school, Jim did a five-year apprenticeship with Britten-Norman and qualified as an Aircraft Electrician.
He joined the Coastguard in the mid-1960s where he remained for 43 years. Starting as a ‘Watcher’, Jim went joined the Coastguard Rescue Equipment Team, rising to Station Officer in Bembridge in 1980.
He received an MBE in 2009 for his services to the Coastguard.
