Wayne Garfield Pritchett
Wayne was born in Rookley, Isle of Wight, but grew up in Newport, in Sea Street, near the Harbour. He went to school at Barton Main Boy’s school, then Priory Boy’s School when it newly opened.
Working initially on the family farm, he moved to Morey’s, working bringing timber from the ships at Medham to Newport. A couple of marine related jobs led him to work for the then Borough of Newport, dredging the River Medina using a Grafton steam crane. Wayne ended by being the Newport Harbour Master until his retirement in 2019.
