John Samuel Whites were known as ‘Whites Built, Well Built’ and we always got the speed from the ships and I think the Admiralty were pleased to employ us but when they had to start cutting back we were one of the first ones to go because as I said earlier, we had to bring all the materials over to the Island which was an added cost to them.
